Hi everyone, sorry for posting this topic because it's probably been well exhausted, but I think it's different for everyone.
Right now, I'm looking for a game (I love MMOs, but open to any other game suggestions, online or single player) that will hold me off until Darkfall is released. I've played almost every MMO out there at least once in my lifetime, but I have a hard time staying interested when I find a lot of faults/ lack of originality. What I'm asking it that you lovely people of the MMO community sell me into playing a game that will keep me addicted for at least a few days

.
I have a pretty open mind about the types of games I play so I'm not looking for something specific. I would seriously prefer it to be F2P, but trials are cool too. Most recently I've played EVE (trial - I found it too over my head), EQ2, and and I am still subscribed to LotRO. I'm not particularly pleased with any of those at this point (well, I played EQ2 for a long time...it IS a good game IMO). Besides not wanting to fork out cash, another reason I would like it to be F2P is so that a friend of mine can play along with me, so that it won't get as boring either.
Thanks alot!
PS. if you are a hardcore gamer at the game you suggest, and want to join up with me, PM me your server and character name

.
EDIT: I forgot to mention that I LOVE good pvp.
Comments
(PS point and click asian games suck)
My suggestions would have to be in order from best to worst:
Shadowbane (I just started playing it again and its fun. Roll a guy on the mourning server. PvP is intense and the game is completely free)
Voyage Century Online (I never got to the PvP but this game kept me entertained for a week or so)
Guild Wars (Its boring to me, but maybe you'll like it?)
ArchLord (I only beta tested it and yea it is not that great, but the pvp is supposed to be decent, but its free per month)
*edit*
almost forgot..
YAR !

I neither play WoW nor eat fast food.
I think they have a starting area demo. I am not sure if that is out yet, but I did hear they are making one. The problems at BETA and early release like bugs, performance and broken quests have been fixed. Thank Gosh!
I like the game a lot now, and I play both Vanguard and EQ 2. It is great. The second major update is upcoming as well. The servers are about to be merged because they had like way too many and so many quit because of the issues from early release.

I am playing Rappelz until AoC and Aion come out. To me Rappelz is one of the best if not the best f2p game, it's even better than many of the p2p games.
With it's fast paced and fun fighting system it's a good game to play while you are waiting for another game to comes out.
It's f2p, so just download and play
Edit: as for PvP, Rappelz is a copy of Lineage 2 which is one of the best pvp games (but better in several ways; i.ex better pet system, more accessible mounts,...). Castle sieges are already working. It got arenas and guild alliances last month. In 1 or 2 weeks the Epic 4 game expansion is coming to our servers, this will add the 2nd profession changes and many improvements with guild wars following. So now is a good time to start.
I cannot wait!!!

The problem is that the game has no life, no soul (dead cities, npcs do not "live" there; missing animation details that make a world alive, traveling npcs on the roads, more lore,...).
Have they done anything to give a soul to this game ?
The question is ridiculous. (I think you take it seriously, nevertheless).
Yes. Vanguard has a "soul" insofar as a world feel is concerned. It has tremendous depth in its class system. It has great depth with the various cultures and race as each grant not only different stats but unique abilities. Each race also progresses different. E.g., a High Elf will receive certain bonuses each level that a Halfling would not receive. It is very sophisticated. The combat is very active, very involved, and very fun. If you learn different encounters and know your class well (any class) you can play the game very well with that character. That is, your real-life decisions about your class stances, how you allocate progression points, and what abilities you use and in what order will determine your success (or failure). It is more complex.
You can progress as an adventurer, crafter, or diplomat. The adventurer sphere allows games to progress through Quests, solo Quests, tasks, small group tasks, small group Quests, full group Quests/tasks, and soon to be raiding. You can also grind, if you like; there are tons of camps, dungeons, etc. The game is breathtaking in the amount of options for content.
It is a very fun game, and SOE is doing a great job on really improving it. I cannot wait for game update 2!!

BTW I tried Rappelz...it is a good game but I don't like that theres only like 6 different character models..everyone looks the same. And also, its point and click movement >_<.
I am going to be honest. I think the PvP is terrible. Some love it. I hate EQ 2's PvP as well, btw.
HOWEVER, if you like FFA PvP, you will like Vanguard's PvP.

So, is the game still bland or does it now have a soul ?
Again :
- are the cities still dead ?
- do the npcs now live in this world, or do they still stand there with sticks in their asses ?
- is there some purpose in this world ? is there now some lore to give this world a purpose? (i.ex : random books scattered around the world in houses, stories going with the dungeons, etc...) (not talking about diplomacy)
- are the animations that make a world alive finally there ? (butterflies, flocks of birds in the skies, fish in the waters, etc...) You know, all those things you find in Wow, Eq2, or Lotro for instance.
- are the borken shadows fixed ? (no object shadows, broken/no shadows when you stand on something like a stone, ...)
So, is the game still so bland? Or to phrase it differently : is the game now finished or is it still in beta?
Gothic 3 is one of the best single player rpg games. On par with Oblivion.
Yep, it could be a good thing while waiting for your mmo.
May I suggest Roma Victor? It's listed on the game list here so feel free to check it out. Its got a one time fee of $40 USD to get an account key and client download but no monthly subscription.
The pvp is amazing but the crafting is amazing also. The community can be great and not so great at times and the game lacks players.
The game has its own faults but overall its decent. I can assure you its nothing like all these same old same old fantasy games out right now.
The game is the very opposite of bland in my opinion. You are asking a number of aesthetic questions. I think the world is brilliant. Actually, the world is one of my favorite features of the game. I know of no other MMO that I have played with a world like Vanguard's with such diversity and life.
