Dark and Light, Wurm Online, Roma Victor, Vanguard

Out of all of the above mentioned titles, clearly vanguard is the most well known (I guess) but would someone maybe give me a quick blurb about each game?  I am just wondering what they are like, specifically the PvP systems and how bad is "the grind".

oh dear not good choices to ask this about im afraid

this is gonna get a whole lot of negative posts

so ill answer you as bluntly and clearly as i can so you get the facts

dark and light is dead it has been dead since release and will continue to be dead..i know coz i played at release and still have it installed on my xp drive and just check in now and again even now its free to play atm its still dead and fps is a joke, its nothing but a grind and pvp is dead due to no ppl playing and even when they were classes etc just stay away.

roma victor another i played from release and still have installed on my xp drive, its a historic mmorpg this=everthing is uber realistic(not in a good way) you cant even call it a grind in the normal sense coz it  just dont play out that way and pvp lol nuff said

    wurm online lmao forget it

vanguard the only real mmorpg in your list, but ultimatly uber broken with uber grind but in a nice way(shame classes are broken solo is v.hard lack of players makes grouping v.hard allthough server merge may help this, pvp is dead after merge only 1 FFA  server will remain and we all know what FFA servers intail.

if you have to go for one go for vsoh

but eq2 would be a better choice,or if you prefer somthing less heavy go fer lorto or even *cough WoW

I can describe each of them in a few words

Dark and Light: Big scam, large scam, ultimate scam, big scam, large scam, ultimate scam, big scam, large scam, ultimate scam.

Wurm Online: Idiot devs, what mmorpg doesn't have backups, have their servers crash and everyone starts at the very beginning? idiots.

Roma Victor: WTF is this POS

Vanguard: Failed mmorpg that is empty on all servers. Knew SOE would buy from the beginning. Despite everyone saying they wouldn't be involved.

    Hope this helped:)

    (edit)

    If those were too long

    Dark and Light: WTF Lame

    Wurm Online: WTF Lame

    Roma victor: WTF lame

    Vanguard: HAHAH WTF LAME

What on earth made you choose these four MMORPGs?
  • RaekRaek Member Posts: 60
Just four that I haven't tried and seemed really under the radar (aside from Vanguard kind of)
  • SlampigSlampig Member UncommonPosts: 2,342
Out of the four games you have mentioned in your post, I have to admit, Vanguard is the only one I have played. Having played it since release I know all about the bugs and unfinished content and all the things you read about in the other forums...

Having said that, I do have to admit, for me personally, I enjoy the game. To me it is the right blend of solo'able <-- no CLUE how to spell that...  gaming and yet, if I want to, grouping. Yes, depending on where I am in game it is totally hard to find a group, but I have noticed that in the majority of games I have played.

Dark and Light I totally was into...until..well we all know what until means...

Roma Victor I have been following since before the beta but having never played it, no real comment to be made.

As for Wurm, I have had an interest but also, no real opportunity to give it a try so until then, I will reserve judgement.

That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!

What do you do in VG:SoH other than grind..?
  • SlampigSlampig Member UncommonPosts: 2,342
I have fun, what do you do in ANY of these games, besides maybe UO, than grind?

It isn't ab out the grind for me, it is about the fun, and I do have fun playing Vanguard.

I played Vanguard for a couple weeks before real life commitments pulled me away from it.  But I actually enjoyed it.  The combat just seemed more involved than the typical MMO and I thought the game looked quite nice.  I was surprised when news came out that it was a flop.  I guess I didn't play enough to see the bad parts.

Then again, the way the internet and rumor mill works, everything is exaggerated.  There is a definitely bandwagon effect.  That's why you get people still going on and on about how much SWG and SoE sucks, even though it's been years.

I'm currently playing WOW.  It's my first MMORPG...and now I'm looking for a more realistic game...

I used a web search for uber realistic and mmorpg and got this thread...so I hope I got good results.

Immercenary said roma victor is uber realistic...so that maybe what I'm looking for.

Anyhow...why would you choose roma victor johnmatthais?  ...and are there any others that are realistic but not in this thread?

    thanks!

DnL- fun flying dragons, snowboard, big pretty world.  That's all it had though unless they added something since beta which I doubt from what I heard when sog came out.

Wurm online- didn't play it enough to really judge it

RV- Very good concept, bad implementation, still not too bad.

VG- havn't played it enough to judge.

If you had to choose one I would say RV or VG because they are the most complete.

I gotta say that Roma Victor is pretty sweet actually.  It is very realistic, yes.  And the graphics do suck, yes.  But on the other hand if you like history and hate quests it's the game for you.  Your character just flat out needs stuff.  Constantly.  ANd the options for what you can become are unlimited because it's not one of those games where you are something.  It's one of those games where you do something.  Know what  mean?

Like instead of joining a game and thinking, "Hey, I'm going to be the bounty hunter class so I can bounty hunt," it's "Hey, I bounty hunt and therefore am a bounty hunter."

They have a lot of great changes just on the horizon too.  I dig it but I will say that you better be prepared to work damn hard for every single trinket you get.  The game ain't for the faint of the heart.  Ain't no map or radar to help you get around.

All I can say is they are under the radar for a reason. You have picked, arguably, the four worst MMOs ever made.

Sounds like the mmorpg I'm looking for...you should have to work hard to get ahead.

Can the stuff that you need be crafted?

How realistic is it?  Any magic or fantasy creatures?

How can it be a big scam when the game is F2P?

The devs did promiss alot, and showed little.

But I have yet to see any Hero classes in WoW, and I have followed that game for almost 4 years. What about player/guild housing which were also promised?

Everything is crafted in the entire game world.  The only things you can just find laying around are resources like mud, sticks, minerals, rocks, water, et cetera.

No, there is no magic or anything even remotely resembling it.  No classes.  No levels.  Completely free form and open skill system.  It's very accurate to historical accounts at the time as the game takes place around 190 A.D. (the year 944 ingame because Romans used 754 B.C., the year of the founding of Rome, as the beginning of their yearly records).

I just found out about Roma Victor, and it sounds amazing. It is as far from WoW you can come

Now i just have to find a trail....

  • DaiynDaiyn Member Posts: 9

I played wurm for 3 months and quit due to toke too much time... But if you give it some time and get into a nice village its very fun and addicting (and realistic).. it takes a few days to just get started and build a house and many more days to build a whole village (flatten out the ground,  chop down trees and make planks, mine stone for roads and ores to make hammers and nails etc etc..)
